Student Guidelines Explanation

  • Open Book Allowed - Allows exam taker to utilize a physical book or e-book during the exam. If allowing them to use an e-book, you will need to include the link in the Allowed Sites URLs section.
  • Notes Allowed - Permits exam taker to reference any physical or digital notes.
  • Scratch Paper Allowed - Allows exam taker to utilize multiple sheets of blank paper and a writing utensil during the exam.
  • Exam taker will not be flagged or have their exam paused for being partially out of view if Scratch Paper AllowedNotes Allowed, or Open Book Allowed is selected. Exam taker completely out of view will be flagged. If you utilize Live Proctoring, proctors will not perform live pop-ins on exam taker partially out of view if Scratch Paper AllowedNotes Allowed, or Open Book Allowed are selected.
  • Restroom Breaks Allowed - Permits exam taker to leave the webcam view for a short period of time. We encourage you to add additional instructions around the duration or frequency they can use the restroom so that proctors can provide specific instructions if you want to limit breaks. While Restroom Breaks Allowed is active, they can leave the testing area for up to 5 minutes without their exam being paused or flagged.
  • Handheld Calculator - Indicates exam taker can use a handheld calculator, but not the calculator on their cell phone.
  • Hats Allowed - Permits exam taker to wear a baseball hat or hoodie on their head during the exam. Honorlock will always allow them to wear religious head coverings during an exam.
  • Headphones Allowed - Exam taker can wear any headphones during the exam.
  • Background Noise Allowed - Permits exam taker to be in an environment where other people are talking, or there's excessive background noises, etc.
  • Take Exam in a Public Area - Indicates that exam taker can complete the exam in a coffee shop, library, etc. where other people are around and noise is present. They cannot interact with other people in the testing environment. When Take an Exam in Public Area is active, Honorlock will not flag exams with multiple faces visible in the webcam.
